I'm a fan of the speech engine, and was really excited to know that both kurzweil and the apex I'm about to get use elloquence as one of the synthesizers; however, when trying to read a document continuously, the speech engine will insert random pauses where none exist. For instance, it will speak haltingly as if a comma were there when it isn't. For instance, it would read this sentence "this accessible media has been provided to you through a service for the blind" as "This accessible media, has been provided to you, through a service for the blind."
Does anyone else find this irritating? or, preferably, does anyone know if this can be fixed? please?
That's interesting...what system are you using?
it sounds to me like you are using the sapi baced version of eloquence and not the speech driver that most companys have now. if you are using the sapi baced version that can't be fixt. the only fix for that is to use the speech driver for it.
if you are using win7 I don't think the sapi baced version of eloquence would work because it's sapi4, and I don't think win7 even will allow you to run older sapi4 baced sinths. if you are using the dedicated speach driver for it, and it's still doing it, it may be that they haven't updated there speach driver to make it sound like it would in jaws.
well, in kurzweil, it's called "eti-elloquence". And in the registry, it's under the file "sapiReg.exe". Does that help any? I'd really like for it to read like jaws if I can. I'm glad that it's a fixable problem, I just don't know what to do. And I'm running xp.
ok, that's what I thought. I don't think ther is any way you can fix it. if they like I said used the dedicated driver for eloquence and not the Sapi baced it could be fixible. Sapi synths read stuff there own way. I like that way for some reason. lol.
Isn't there any way I could get and install the driver though?
no. I don't think so.
NO, the product you're using would have to utilize direct driver technology much the way jaws or window eyes directly interacts with eloquence rather than the Sapi version of the Eloquence which is not nearly as responsive as direct technology.
OCR products have relied on this method for years, and just recently Openbook 8 moved to the direct technology.
yeah, exactly. I don't think jaws was ever using the SAPI version of eloquence, they have been using the direct tech for years. win-eyes on the other hand used sapi4 eloquence for years until the release of wineyes 7. openbook used IBM viavoice for years until version 8. I still think some companys still use the sapi based version of eloquence, I think dolphin still does for those that want it, however i'm not sure.
